The CPIM-Srikakulam District Secretary D. Govinda Rao on Saturday urged the Srikakulam Municipal Corporation to launch a cleanliness drive along the Nagavali riverbank, which is filled with garbage. The call for action comes after allegations that contaminated water is being supplied to households.
Mr. Rao, along with other party members, formed a human chain at the riverbank near a bridge constructed across the Nagavali river to protest the situation.
The CPIM has alleged that Corporation officials have colluded with hospital managements to dump medical waste near the riverbank and allow drainage water to flow directly into the river.
The Srikakulam Municipal Corporation is expected to respond to the CPIM's demands, with further action to be taken in the coming days to address the issue of contaminated water supply and garbage along the Nagavali riverbank.
