JSW Dulux 1:10 Stock Split Triggers Thursday Repricing Amid Dividend Wave

The market calendar is packed for the week of October 21, but the headline act is JSW Dulux. Shares will start trading Thursday, October 22, adjusted for a 1:10 stock split. This means one existing share with a ₹10 face value gets broken into 10 new shares, each carrying a ₹1 face value. For traders, this isn't a value change—it’s a liquidity play. The lower price point typically widens the bid-ask spread and makes the stock more accessible to retail investors who currently find the ticket size prohibitive.

But it’s not just about the paint maker. Friday, October 23, is the heavy hitter for dividends. Six major names—Tech Mahindra, L&T, ICICI Lombard, IRFC, HDB Financial, and Oberoi Realty—all have record dates set for that day. If you hold these stocks, you need to own them by the end of the trading session on October 22 to qualify for the payouts. Tech Mahindra’s dividend is particularly watched given its IT sector peers’ mixed results this quarter.

Wednesday, October 21, kicks off the cycle earlier. ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company will use this date for its interim dividend of ₹30 per share. MRPL joins the list with a modest ₹3 per share payout. Meanwhile, VRL Logistics is executing a ₹280 crore buyback at ₹320 per share, with its record date also set for Thursday. That buyback price offers a clear floor for the stock, signaling management confidence in the valuation.

Market mechanics matter here. Monday and Tuesday are effectively dead zones—Tuesday is a holiday for Dussehra, and Monday sees thin volume. The real action starts Wednesday. For intraday traders, the ex-date for JSW Dulux on Thursday will see initial volatility as algorithms adjust for the split. Don’t expect a price crash; the market price per share will simply divide by 10. The total market cap remains static. But watch for a temporary liquidity surge in the first 30 minutes of trading as old orders are scrubbed and new ones pile in.

Looking ahead, the dividend payments themselves will hit bank accounts in the coming weeks, but the ex-dates are where the trading opportunity lies. After Friday, the calendar quiets down until the next major earnings cluster. For long-term investors, the Tech Mahindra and L&T dividends are the key takeaways—consistent cash returns from stable cash flows. For the rest, it’s a week of administrative adjustments rather than fundamental shifts. Keep an eye on the BSE filings for any last-minute changes to the record dates, though none are expected.
