Former Minister and YSRCP district president Kakani Govardhan Reddy on Saturday demanded the suspension of a Sub-Inspector (SI) for allegedly beating a party worker without cause in Nellore. The incident occurred when YSRCP leader Hari questioned an Assistant Engineer over a bribe allegation, and SI Hanif subsequently called Hari to the police station and beat him up.
According to Mr. Govardhan Reddy, there are multiple allegations against SI Hanif, and he should be suspended immediately. The Former Minister warned that the YSRCP would take action against officers who have caused trouble to party workers without cause when the party comes to power.
The protest was staged in front of the Podalakur police station, and after the DSP assured to conduct an investigation into the incident and take necessary action, Mr. Kakani called off the protest.
The DSP's assurance has led to a temporary resolution, but the incident highlights ongoing tensions between the YSRCP and local authorities. The court or relevant authorities are expected to take further action based on the investigation's findings, with the next steps likely to involve a formal inquiry into the allegations against SI Hanif.
