AIADMK leader R.B. Udhayakumar indicated on May 9, 2026, that positive developments were expected within the party after holding talks with former Law Minister C.V. Shanmugam in Chennai. Emerging from the meeting, Udhayakumar told reporters, "Be patient," when asked about the discussions involving Shanmugam and party MLAs.
A significant number of AIADMK legislators attended the meeting, which follows reports of disagreements between Shanmugam and party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami over the party's stance toward the incoming Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government and potential alignment with the DMK, its long-time rival. The concerns center on strategic direction in the aftermath of the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026.
Earlier that day, Palaniswami convened a separate meeting with all AIADMK legislators and senior office-bearers, underscoring efforts to consolidate party unity amid growing public speculation. Senior leaders have not issued formal statements on any internal discord.
The party is expected to release an official statement on its political strategy in the coming days, following coordination among top leadership.
