Left Parties and VCK Protest in Madurai Against Gas Price Hike, Railway Job Cuts
Left-wing parties and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) held a demonstration in Madurai on Thursday to protest the central government's decision to raise commercial cooking gas cylinder prices and eliminate 29,000 positions in Indian Railways. Protesters, including functionaries from the CPI, CPI(M), CPI(ML), and VCK, demanded the immediate rollback of both policies.
Protesters chanted slogans condemning the BJP-led NDA government, accusing it of favoring corporate interests at the expense of the general public. They warned that the gas price increase was hurting businesses and households, while the railway job cuts would disproportionately impact youth employment prospects.
The demonstration drew hundreds of participants from the involved parties. Organizers stated the protest was part of a broader campaign against central economic policies, with further actions likely as opposition to the measures continues to mobilize.
