A man breached security at the Ajmer Dargah on Saturday (May 9) at around 3 pm, climbing into the shrine's historic 'Badi Degh' and attempting to steal cash offerings placed by devotees. The incident, captured on CCTV, triggered panic among visitors and led to a scuffle with Dargah staff who pulled him out after a brief struggle.
Dargah employees intervened immediately, with one staff member entering the degh to stop the man, who resisted before being overpowered. The Badi Degh, a large communal cooking vessel, contains food and monetary offerings during religious events and holds significant historical value, dating back to Mughal Emperor Akbar's era.
Police from the Dargah station arrived promptly, took the man into custody, and questioned him. Authorities determined he was mentally unstable and, after assessment, released him with a warning. No injuries were reported.
The Dargah administration has called for a review of security around the degh, while police continue to monitor the situation. The man is not facing formal charges.
