Sunday’s protest at Jantar Mantar turned tense when three journalists accused a Delhi Police ACP of sexual harassment.
The reporters, part of a broader media delegation, said the officer reached out to them while covering the demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Delhi Police responded that the complaints were forwarded to the Crime Branch for an impartial inquiry, and no FIR has yet been lodged. But the police claim the transfer is routine after such allegations.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra slammed the silence, demanding Modi and Shah explain why an FIR has not been filed. Yet she said, "Women feel threatened by the very police force whose duty is to provide security…"
AAP Delhi chief Saurabh Bharadwaj and CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat joined the protest, calling the ACP's conduct "disgusting" and urging immediate action. And Bharadwaj posted on X that "ACP Vivek Bhagat must be arrested for molesting a lady journalist."
The Crime Branch will convene a hearing next week, and Delhi Police face mounting pressure to register an FIR before the court’s Friday session.
