The AB PM-JAY Auto-Adjudication Hackathon Showcase 2026, which began on Friday, featured the presentation of AI and Machine Learning (AI/ML)-based solutions developed to improve claims adjudication under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. The event was organised by the National Health Authority (NHA) in collaboration with the IndiaAI Mission and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.
The solutions presented included AI systems capable of automatically analysing healthcare documents, identifying mandatory visual elements, and generating explainable adjudication outputs aligned with treatment guidelines and policy requirements.
The hackathon also featured discussions on the role of Small Language Models, Large Language Models, and multimodal AI systems in healthcare delivery, particularly in low-resource and multilingual settings.
According to NHA Chief Executive Officer Sunil Kumar Barnwal, the authority’s in-house auto-adjudication initiatives have reduced average claim processing time from nearly 20 days to around four hours.
The immediate next steps include the implementation of the showcased AI solutions to further enhance the efficiency and accuracy of health claims under AB PM-JAY, with the NHA expected to announce the selected solutions and their implementation timelines in the coming weeks.
