Villupuram Town Police seized 20 kilograms of ganja and arrested one man near Villupuram Railway Station on Saturday night following a tip-off. The suspect, S. Mohanraj, 34, was intercepted with a bag containing 16 bundles of the narcotic.
Acting on intelligence, police were conducting surveillance near the station when they spotted Mohanraj, a resident of Tirukkoyilur, behaving suspiciously. A search revealed the ganja concealed in his possession.
Initial investigation indicates Mohanraj purchased the drug from suppliers in Andhra Pradesh to sell in retail across Villupuram district. He was taken into custody and remanded by the court.
A case has been registered under relevant narcotics laws. The police are probing possible links to a larger drug network, and further investigations are ongoing.
