Excise officials have arrested two men near Vizhinjam in Thiruvananthapuram following the seizure of 51 grams of MDMA and 2.6 grams of ganja. The suspects were identified as Jishnu, 30, from Chittarikkal in Kasaragod, and Sahalu Rahman, 36, a native of Karuvarakundu in Malappuram.
The Neyyattinkara excise team intercepted the duo during a routine vehicle inspection at Mukkola around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The suspects were traveling in a rented car from Ernakulam, and authorities suspect they intended to sell the drugs to tourists visiting Kovalam and Poovar.
MDMA was recovered from a bag carried by Jishnu, while ganja was found in Sahalu Rahman's possession. The narcotics have an estimated street value of ₹3.5 lakh. Mobile phones seized from the accused are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
Further questioning of the accused is underway, and the excise department has initiated procedures to determine additional links, if any, in the narcotics supply chain.
