Congress Backs TVK in Tamil Nadu Government Formation, DMK Severs Ties
The Congress party has extended support to 'Thalapathy' Vijay's TVK in the Tamil Nadu government formation, with its five MLAs backing the TVK. The TVK, which emerged as the single largest party by winning 108 seats, required 10 more seats to form the government in the state.
The TVK has also reached out to the CPI, CPIM, and VCK for support, with each of these parties holding two seats. If they formally offer support to Vijay's party, it can achieve a majority mark of 118 seats.
The DMK has reacted angrily to the Congress decision, with DMK MP Kanimozhi writing to the Lok Sabha Speaker to request a change in seating arrangement in the Lok Sabha, citing the end of the alliance between the two parties.
The immediate next steps will involve the formalization of support from the CPI, CPIM, and VCK to the TVK, and the DMK's official response to the Congress decision. The Tamil Nadu governor will also play a crucial role in the government formation process, with the TVK likely to stake its claim to form the government in the coming days.
