NC, PDP Clash Over Rajya Sabha Poll Conduct, Seminary Closure and Urdu Policy

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said no member of his party will act against the National Conference organization after Right to Information disclosures identified legislators who aided the Bharatiya Janata Party in Rajya Sabha polls. The statement deepened a public rift with the People’s Democratic Party, which accused the government of political bias and institutional neglect.
PDP leaders alleged that the closure of a prominent seminary in Kashmir and the perceived marginalization of Urdu in official communications reflect deliberate policy shifts favoring majoritarian interests. They demanded a judicial probe into the seminary’s shutdown and corrective measures to restore Urdu’s administrative status.
The National Conference rejected the allegations, asserting that its organizational structure operates within legal bounds and that Rajya Sabha voting choices were the prerogative of elected members. Party spokespersons said RTI findings do not establish wrongdoing and accused rivals of politicizing routine parliamentary decisions.
PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has called an emergency party meeting to determine whether to move the courts or the legislature over the seminary closure and language policy. The state government has not announced any review or corrective action as of Tuesday evening.
