Iran has congratulated White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on the birth of her daughter, Viviana, while criticizing her over the US strike on a school in Minab that killed over 150 people, many of them children. The Iranian Embassy in Armenia said in a statement that the children killed in the attack were no different from Leavitt's own daughter.
The US strike on the school in Minab occurred on February 28, with 73 boys and 47 girls killed, according to state broadcaster IRIB and local media. The attack happened on the day the US and Israel launched attacks across Iran, prompting Tehran to strike targets in Israel and Gulf nations.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt had previously said the US does not target civilians, despite a preliminary US military investigation finding that a US Tomahawk cruise missile hit the elementary school due to a targeting mistake.
The Iranian Embassy's statement comes as the US continues to investigate the incident, with US President Donald Trump having initially suggested that Iran itself may have been responsible for the strike. The court will resume hearing on the matter, with officials expected to provide further updates on the investigation.
