Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) general secretary and former IPS officer R.S. Praveen Kumar has demanded the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising senior women police officers in the DGP cadre to probe a POCSO case registered against the son of Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay. The case was filed at Pet Basheerabad police station in Telangana following allegations of sexual offence against a minor.
Praveen Kumar alleged on Sunday that police refused to register the complaint for nearly five hours on Saturday, citing the accused's high-profile connections. He claimed the victim's family was not given even an acknowledgement of the complaint until they threatened to self-immolate during a Prime Minister-related public event on Sunday.
He questioned the silence of Congress women leaders D. Seethakka and K. Surekha on the matter, noting their usual readiness to comment on other issues. Praveen Kumar also called for disciplinary action against police personnel accused of obstructing the case and attempting to protect the accused.
The Telangana police have confirmed the registration of the POCSO case, and preliminary proceedings are underway. The court is expected to hear the matter on Monday, when the prosecution may seek custody or additional investigative powers.
