Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) announced Monday it will build a third vehicle manufacturing plant in the Bidkin Industrial Area of Maharashtra, India, with production scheduled to begin in the first half of 2029. The facility will have an initial annual capacity of 100,000 vehicles and employ approximately 2,800 workers at launch, covering all core manufacturing processes including stamping, welding, painting, and assembly.
The plant's first model will be a new SUV, details of which remain undisclosed. TKM confirmed the facility will serve both the Indian market and export destinations across the region, marking a strategic expansion amid rising demand for SUVs and India's emergence as the world's third-largest automotive market.
TKM, a joint venture between Toyota Motor Corporation (89%) and Kirloskar Systems Limited (11%), currently operates two plants in Bidadi, Karnataka, with a combined annual capacity of 342,000 units. The new Maharashtra plant is located within the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, a national priority infrastructure project aimed at boosting industrial growth.
The company did not disclose the total investment value for the project. The plant will increase Toyota's local production capabilities, reduce reliance on imports, and allow faster response to market demand.
TKM stated it will continue engaging with local stakeholders and authorities ahead of construction, with the first vehicles expected to roll out in early 2029.
