Kodagu Homestays Face New Restrictions on Infrastructure and Occupancy

The Tourism Department in Kodagu has imposed restrictions on homestays, limiting them to a minimum of one and a maximum of six guest rooms with no more than 12 beds in total. No more than 12 adults can stay at a homestay at any given time.

The restrictions also prohibit dormitory-style accommodation and bunker beds.

According to officials, rented, leased, or sub-leased properties cannot be registered as homestays, and property owners must reside on the premises.

The new restrictions were announced in a press release on May 9, 2026.

The Tourism Department will likely monitor compliance with the new regulations, and homestay owners are expected to adapt to the changes to avoid any penalties or fines. The department may also provide further guidance on the implementation of the restrictions in the coming days.
