Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Monday that attempts by foreign invaders to destroy India's spiritual and cultural identity had failed, as 'Sanatan resides in India's consciousness' and cannot be erased. He made the statement while addressing the Somnath Sankalp Mahotsav in Varanasi.
The Chief Minister credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for guiding the country towards the vision of 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat' and for spearheading the revival of major spiritual centres across India, including the Somnath temple in Saurashtra and the Kashi Vishwanath Dham in Kashi.
Adityanath said that several foreign rulers, including Mohammad Ghori and the Mughals, had attempted to destroy India's cultural and spiritual identity, but were unable to break the country's soul.
The Chief Minister alleged that even today, there are forces opposed to the resurgence of India's spiritual and cultural symbols, and that the same people who had opposed the reconstruction of the Somnath temple later created obstacles in the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
The event, Somnath Swabhiman Parv, marked the clarion call for the resurgence of India's cultural consciousness and spiritual tradition, with the Prime Minister performing a special Mahapuja, along with Kumbhabhishek, flag hoisting and rituals during the main event being held at Somnath Temple in Gujarat. The court will resume hearing on the matter after the event concludes, with officials expected to provide further statements on the initiatives taken by the government to restore India's civilisational pride.
