HDFC Bank has just appointed Anup Bagchi as its next Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, a move that landed the shares in a quiet trade at the close.
Bagchi, 58, brings more than three decades of experience across the ICICI Group – from retail to treasury – and had been steering ICICI Prudential Life Insurance as MD & CEO.
The decision followed a series of board maneuvers: Jagdishan’s term expired on October 26, 2026; the board had earlier submitted Kaizad Bharucha and Bagchi to the RBI in September 2026; and the regulator gave clearance on October 1.
RBI, after a review, said it had no material concerns about governance, describing the bank as a systemically important institution with sound financials and a competent board.
Looking ahead, HDFC Bank is set to roll out a new CFO in December with Puneet Sharma, and the leadership change is expected to sharpen focus on deposit mobilisation and credit‑deposit ratios, key metrics for the bank’s stability.
