Chennai Super Kings batter Urvil Patel struck the joint-fastest fifty in IPL history, reaching the milestone in 13 balls against Lucknow Super Giants at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday. His explosive knock equalled the record set by Yashasvi Jaiswal in 2023, marking a breakthrough moment in his tournament career.
Patel, a 27-year-old wicketkeeper-batter from Gujarat, had previously gone unsold in the IPL 2023, 2024, and 2025 auctions despite a strong domestic record. Signed by CSK as a replacement for injured pacer Vansh Bedi during IPL 2026, he delivered under pressure with a fearless innings that underscored his reputation for rapid scoring in white-ball cricket.
Urvil has a history of quickfire knocks, including a 28-ball T20 century in the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy—the fastest by an Indian—and a 41-ball century in List-A cricket. He also scored a 36-ball hundred last season against Uttarakhand, reinforcing his status as one of India’s most aggressive limited-overs batters.
CSK officials confirmed Patel will retain his place in the playing XI for the next match. The team faces Royal Challengers Bengaluru at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday.
