A Kerala-based website, Currentundo.com, has been launched to track power cuts across the state using crowd data. The website, developed by Alkesh Das, allows users to report outages using PIN codes and GPS, providing real-time updates on power supply status.
The website has drawn around 50,000 users and 10,000 daily visits in nearly two weeks, with nearly 1,000 users adding it to their home screens.
The platform uses a GPS system that covers a two-kilometre radius and does not pinpoint the precise location of the user, ensuring user privacy.
Recent updates include district-wise chatrooms across Kerala's 14 districts for real-time reporting, with moderation systems to block abusive language.
The developer, Alkesh Das, is now focused on improving the accuracy of the platform's updates, exploring collaborations with start-ups and developing an app to send push notifications for nearby outages.
