Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay was invited by Tamil Nadu Governor RV Arlekar to form the government on Saturday after submitting letters of support from 120 Members of the Legislative Assembly at Lok Bhavan. The development ends days of political uncertainty following the assembly elections and marks a rapid rise for the two-year-old party.
Vijay, accompanied by alliance leaders including Congress Tamil Nadu chief K Selvaperunthagai, attended his fourth meeting with the Governor in four days. Earlier meetings were inconclusive as the Governor maintained Vijay had not met the required majority mark of 118 MLAs until Saturday's submission.
Sources present at the meeting said the atmosphere was cordial, with alliance leaders served vadai, halwa, and coffee during the discussions. After formalities concluded, Vijay remained at Lok Bhavan for nearly an hour, awaiting the official appointment letter.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Sunday at 10 a.m. Gov. Arlekar will administer the oath at a public event expected to draw significant attention across the state.
