Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was conferred an honorary Doctor of Letters at Adani University’s 17th convocation in Wardha on Saturday.
The ceremony – the first since the institution was renamed from Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education and Research – was presided over by Dr Priti Adani, the university’s chancellor and chairperson of the Adani Foundation.
Adani University awarded 2,320 degrees, including 123 PhDs, across ten faculties, with 123 gold medals, seven silver medals and 13 other prizes presented to 83 awardees.
Among the honourees, Dr Abhijat Sheth, chairperson of the National Medical Commission, received an honorary Doctor of Science for his work in medical education and public health.
Fadnavis, in a light‑hearted remark, thanked God for not having to earn a PhD himself, while Dr Adani highlighted the late Shri Datta Meghe’s legacy.
The university, which began with 100 medical students, now hosts more than 14,000 students across 260 multidisciplinary programmes.
