At the 'Lifesaver Honours Night' ceremony in Bengaluru on Wednesday, Afshan Yasmeen, Deputy Editor of The Hindu, Bengaluru, was awarded the Excellence in Blood Cancer and Blood Disorders Reporting award for her story on thalassaemia patients in Karnataka. The ceremony, hosted by DKMS Foundation, India, brought together medical professionals, institutions, and advocates working to strengthen India's stem cell donor ecosystem.
The award recognized Yasmeen's impactful journalism, which helped bring attention to the challenges faced by patients and caregivers.
Other awardees included Latha Jagannathan, Medical Director and Managing Trustee, BMST Bengaluru, who received the Lifetime Achievement Honour, and Manipal Institute of Technology and EXL Technologies India, which were recognized as Outstanding Institutional Partner and Outstanding Corporate Partner, respectively.
