West Bengal Governor Dissolves State Assembly as Term Expires
West Bengal Governor RN Ravi dissolved the State Legislative Assembly on Thursday, with the action taking effect immediately. The Department of Parliamentary Affairs issued the official notification confirming the dissolution.
The current assembly was constituted in May 2021 after the Trinamool Congress, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, won a third consecutive term. Its five-year constitutional tenure has now concluded.
The dissolution is a standard procedural step following the completion of an assembly's term. It comes after the state recently held its two-phase assembly elections to constitute the new legislature.
The Election Commission of India is expected to announce the schedule for the constitution of the new assembly and the swearing-in of the next government following the election results.
