The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has kicked off a nationwide protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, starting in Mumbai on October 2, 2026.
CJP’s demands, outlined by founder Abhijeet Dipke, include Kumar’s resignation, a halt to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, restoration of the January 2025 voter list, repeal of the 2023 appointment law and an independent inquiry into SIR decisions.
Mumbai Police denied the party permission to gather at Shivaji Park, citing traffic congestion and noise pollution. Dipke, however, insisted the protest would still take place there, citing the right to assembly.
Earlier that week, Dipke was briefly detained near Marine Drive while carrying placards. Police released him after a short standoff, but the incident underscored the tension between the party and law enforcement.
CJP has announced that the agitation will spread to Delhi and other major cities, culminating in a march through the capital in early October.
The party will hold a press conference on October 1, and the Delhi march is scheduled for October 5, marking the next phase of its campaign.
