JSW Energy shares closed at ₹507.30, down 2.90 rupees or 0.57% on the BSE, after the group disclosed the placement of a 1,600‑MW turbine‑generator order for Phase II of its 3,200‑MW Salboni thermal project.
The order, executed through its wholly‑owned subsidiary JSW Thermal Energy Ltd, covers two 800‑MW steam turbine generators sourced from Toshiba JSW Power Systems Pvt. Ltd., an associate of the conglomerate. With this, all four 800‑MW units of Salboni are now secured, the first two of which were ordered earlier this year on January 15.
JSW Energy currently operates 5,958 MW of thermal capacity and has 5,000 MW under construction, split between 3,200 MW at Salboni and 1,800 MW at JSW Mahanadi Power Company Ltd. The locked‑in generation capacity of the group stands at 32.4 GW, with 13.4 GW still under construction across thermal, hydro and renewables.
Sharad Mahendra, Joint Managing Director and CEO, said the partnership with Toshiba JSW 'fully secures the TG requirement for the entire 3,200 MW at Salboni, keeping both phases firmly on track for timely completion amid tight equipment supply.'
The company aims to reach 30 GW of generation capacity and 40 GWh of storage by 2030, targeting carbon neutrality by 2050. Analysts expect the new order to bolster the pipeline, potentially nudging the next earnings call to reflect steadier growth.
