On 1 Oct 2026, Flydubai Flight FZ1073, carrying 174 passengers, was struck by violence when the captain was stabbed by his co‑pilot.
An Israeli dentist on board recounted that the blade cut through the captain’s left arm, causing a deep laceration that bled profusely.
Despite losing blood and fighting dizziness, the captain forced the cockpit door open, allowing cabin crew to stabilize him and preventing further danger.
SpiceJet, where the captain spent 11 years before joining Flydubai, posted a tribute on X, calling him a hero and wishing him a swift recovery. "I was incredibly proud. The job of a pilot is to save the lives entrusted to him. He did a tremendous job in saving lives," said CMD Ajay Singh.
Authorities have launched an internal investigation; the co‑pilot remains in custody and the incident is under review by Dubai aviation regulators.
