Former Bouncer Kills Two Sisters-in-Law in Raipur After Domestic Dispute

A 33-year-old former bouncer, Jitendra Verma, shot and killed two sisters, Geetanjali (26) and Durgeshwari (24), at their residence in Raipur on the night of May 5, 2026, following a domestic dispute with his wife, police confirmed. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. at the victims' maternal home after Verma's wife, Khileshwari, left him during an argument and took their one-year-old daughter to her parents' house.
Verma arrived at the residence demanding to see his daughter and argued with the family. He then produced a licensed pistol and fired at Geetanjali, striking her in the neck, before shooting Durgeshwari in the head as she attempted to flee. Both women were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Geetanjali died during treatment and Durgeshwari succumbed to her injuries on May 6.
Police recovered the licensed pistol, two magazines, and an additional firearm from Verma, who had worked as a bouncer and held a firearm license since 2020, later upgraded in 2022. He had lost his job years prior and was working as a plumber while occasionally working as a freelance bouncer. Preliminary investigations indicate a history of domestic conflict, with the wife having verbally reported abuse during intoxication episodes but not filing formal complaints.
A murder case has been registered at Pandri police station, and Verma is in custody. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Mayank Gurjar confirmed the arrest and ongoing investigation.
The Raipur police will present the accused before a magistrate and proceed with formal charges; the court is expected to take cognizance of the case within 48 hours.
