BC Organisations Urge Support for Modi's Public Meeting
R. Krishnaiah, leading 18 Backward Classes (BC) organisations, has appealed to people to participate in large numbers in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's public meeting scheduled to be held on May 10 in India. Krishnaiah urged that at least one member from every household should attend the gathering, citing Modi's emergence as a globally recognised leader and his efforts towards corruption-free governance.
The BC organisations claim that the Union Government has been addressing BC-related issues in a phased manner and that a strong show of support at the meeting would help secure long-pending demands of the BC community.
Krishnaiah highlighted that several constitutional positions have been given to BC, SC, and ST representatives under the present dispensation, and that the Modi government has taken the initiative to conduct a caste census, responding to a long-standing demand of BC communities.
The court is not involved in this matter, but the next step is for the public meeting to take place on May 10, where the Prime Minister is expected to address the gathering and outline his government's vision for the BC community.
