India beat New Zealand in a tight second T20I, clinching a 2‑0 series lead and forcing the Kiwis to reshuffle their fast bowling attack for the rest of the tour.
The decision will see Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry sit out the third match, with Ferguson returning for the final two games at Eden Park and Seddon Park, while Henry heads straight to the ODI camp in Christchurch. Kyle Jamieson will also miss the third game, staying in Wellington to prepare for the Ford Trophy clash before rejoining the national side for the one‑day series.
Blair Tickner joins the squad in Wellington for the last three T20Is, and Josh Clarkson lines up in Auckland for the final two. Matt Fisher will travel with the team to Wellington as cover for the third T20I, then return to New Zealand A at Lincoln University.
Coach Rob Walter praised the squad’s depth, saying, “We’re fortunate to have enough depth to rotate players while preparing for a packed schedule.” He added that the rotation will keep pacers fresh for the upcoming ODI series.
With the series now a 2‑0 advantage for India, New Zealand’s focus shifts to the ODIs starting on November 2, where the Kiwis aim to recover form and keep their international ambitions alive.
