At about 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Bhawani and Asha Ram stood outside a wine shop on Keshav Puram Road when they asked three men for a matchbox to light a cigarette—an offer that was denied. The refusal sparked a heated exchange; the accused then brandished a knife and struck Bhawani on the left side of his back, while Asha Ram sustained a stab to his lower left chest.
Police recovered the knife from 19‑year‑old Naresh Bahadur alias Nepali, who was later arrested along with 19‑year‑old Tarun and a juvenile. “Naresh stabbed both victims, while Tarun and the juvenile assaulted them with fists,” said a senior officer, adding that the weapon was recovered at the scene.
The Keshav Puram police station has filed a case under sections 103(1) and 109(1) of the Indian Penal Code. Asha Ram, still in critical condition, remains under treatment at Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, while Bhawani was pronounced dead at the same facility.
Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage and forensic evidence to confirm the identities of the remaining accused. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 15 June, after which the court will decide on bail and further charges.
