India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) fired back at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) after the latter’s ministerial contact group met on Kashmir at the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly in New York.
The MEA slammed the OIC’s communiqué, calling it unwarranted and factually incorrect, and declared that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of India, with the group lacking any locus standi on what Delhi considers strictly internal.
The OIC, a 57‑member intergovernmental body, has repeatedly urged international attention to Kashmir, citing UN Security Council resolutions and criticizing India’s 2019 administrative changes, framing the issue as a Kashmiri right to self‑determination.
India’s response reiterates its long‑standing view that Kashmir disputes should be settled through the bilateral framework set out in the 1972 Simla Agreement, a point that the UN has also highlighted in past statements.
The MEA warned that the OIC’s platform effectively gives Pakistan a stage to "peddle fabricated propaganda", and suggested the organization should instead counsel Pakistan on the matter.
The communiqué will be forwarded to the UN Security Council for further scrutiny, while the OIC may reply in a subsequent meeting of its ministerial contact group, setting the stage for a new round of diplomatic exchanges.
