Parents of a 10‑year‑old girl in Old Hubballi reported that a stranger had approached her daily, offering small payments and later showing her obscene videos on his mobile phone. Police arrested 38‑year‑old Mazhid Nadaf, a daily‑wage labourer, on May 28, 2026. He had reportedly befriended the child over weeks, asking her to purchase items for him and giving her money. The complaint was lodged at the Old Hubballi Police Station after the girl told her parents about the encounters.
Police said Nadaf attempted inappropriate behavior with the child, and the videos were allegedly shown with wrongful intent. The boy was known to be married, yet he had no prior criminal record. The investigation focuses on the nature of the content and the motive.
Police filed a First Information Report and placed Nadaf in custody pending further inquiry. Investigators are reviewing his background for any earlier offenses under child protection laws.
The case falls under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, with potential penalties of up to seven years imprisonment and a lifetime ban from the state. Local residents expressed relief that authorities acted swiftly, while community leaders called for stronger safeguards for children.
