Justice V Lakshminarayanan said the court would not hand over the investigation to the CBI, noting the Special Investigation Team had only started work on 25 September and should be allowed time to finish. The judge warned that a premature conclusion could misjudge the case’s complexity and reiterated that the SIT will file its first report on 1 October.
The case entered public view when a video purportedly showing the sexual assault of a minor surfaced in October 2025, prompting a police filing under the POCSO Act on 7 October 2025. An earlier attempt to close the probe was rejected by a special POCSO court in August, after investigators struggled to identify the survivor and gather sufficient evidence.
Veeramani was arrested on 29 August along with his wife Shanthi and her husband Mahendra Simhan, who allegedly helped facilitate the crime. Police later detained Ganesan, a former GEM employee, who allegedly possessed a video linked to the case and failed to report it.
The political fallout has intensified as the ruling Tamil Nadu Vellalar Kamaraj (TVK) party blames the former DMK administration for suppressing the investigation. Law Minister CTR Nirmal Kumar accused the previous government of interference, while DMK leaders insist the current government is using the case for political gain ahead of by‑polls.
The court has scheduled a further hearing for 7 October, when the SIT’s progress will be reviewed and decisions on the case’s future direction will be made. The outcome will determine whether the investigation continues under state control or moves to the federal CBI.
