The Communist Party of India (CPI) has extended unconditional outside support to TVK Vijay's party to form the government in Tamil Nadu, state secretary Dr. Ravindra confirmed in an interview with Times Now. The move comes after Vijay's party emerged as the single largest bloc with 107 seats but fell short of a majority in the 234-member assembly. Ravindra stated that CPI, along with allies CPI(M) and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), has collectively decided to back Vijay without joining the government.
The support is currently unconditional, Ravindra added, though discussions with the incoming chief minister are expected to follow. Vijay, a former actor turned politician, has already staked claim before the Tamil Nadu governor but has not been invited to form the government due to insufficient confirmed numbers. He has since held multiple rounds of talks with regional and leftist parties to consolidate support.
Political observers expect Vijay to convene a meeting with all supporting parties to formalize the alliance structure and demonstrate majority backing to the governor. The Tamil Nadu governor is expected to review the claims and may invite Vijay to take the oath once the support is formally verified. The court will resume hearing on Tuesday.
