Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Sunday urged citizens to actively participate in the democratic process, stating that every voter must play a vital role in strengthening India's democracy. Speaking in Andhra Pradesh, he described the current phase as a 'new beginning' for electoral management and highlighted the peaceful conduct of recent State Assembly elections as proof of the system's resilience.
Kumar made the remarks after offering prayers at the Lord Varasiddhi Vinayaka Swamy temple in Kanipakam, following visits to Tirumala and Srikalahasti earlier in the day. He was accompanied by his wife and received a traditional welcome from temple authorities and district officials, including District Collector Sumit Kumar and Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi. Special darshan arrangements were made, and the couple was presented with teertha prasadam after Vedic blessings.
Upon arrival at the Kanipakam guest house, Kumar was accorded a police guard of honour. State Chief Electoral Officer Vivek Yadav was among the officials present. The visit underscores the Election Commission's continued emphasis on public outreach ahead of upcoming electoral exercises.
The Election Commission is expected to announce its voter awareness campaign schedule for the next fiscal year in the coming weeks.
