The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has issued a 15-page show cause notice to star wrestler Vinesh Phogat, barring her from competing in the Senior Open Ranking Series event in Gonda beginning May 10. The notice cites multiple disciplinary and anti-doping related charges, including violation of whereabouts submission requirements under United World Wrestling (UWW) rules and acts of indiscipline.
The WFI has accused Phogat of several breaches, including failure to make weight at the Paris Olympics, alleged violations of the WFI constitution, and participation in two weight categories during selection trials.
The federation has referred to a recorded missed dope test dated December 18, 2025, and stated that Phogat's actions are prejudicial to the interest of the sport of wrestling and the WFI.
Phogat has been asked to explain within 14 days why disciplinary action should not be initiated against her. Pending submission and consideration of her reply, she will not be eligible to participate in any WFI competitions and events till May 26, 2026.
The court will not be involved in this case, however, the WFI will review Phogat's response to the show cause notice and decide on the next course of action, which may include further disciplinary measures.
