Delhi Metro Rail Corporation locked down six central stations on Monday, cutting off entry and exit points from 6 am to 4 pm. The closure covers Patel Chowk, Janpath, Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, and Barakhamba Road. Commuters can still use interchange facilities, but the direct access is gone until the security agencies review the situation.
This isn’t the first time this week. Two days ago, authorities shut down 45 stations for the Cockroach Janta Party’s protest. Now, with the INDIA bloc marching toward the Supreme Court, the security net has tightened again. The DMRC posted the directive on X, stating that updates would follow as the situation evolves. For now, the next ten hours are a no-go zone for direct lifts in and out of those hubs.
The traffic situation looks grim. Delhi Traffic Police issued a detailed advisory listing 30 locations where diversions are likely, including Dhaula Kuan Flyover, Jhandewalan, and the Outer Circle of Connaught Place. Overnight heavy rain left the roads waterlogged, which means the usual morning rush is going to crawl to a halt. The police urged motorists to avoid non-essential travel and follow their social media handles for real-time updates.
Office-goers in the IP and East Delhi corridors are already feeling the strain. One commuter on Janpath noted that he had to reroute via the airport expressway, adding 40 minutes to his usual 20-minute ride. The Delhi Traffic Police shared a WhatsApp number (8750871493) and helpline (1095) for those stuck in the chaos. Expect the restrictions to lift by 4 pm, but the backup may linger well into the evening.
