Obama's return to the campaign trail has been announced with a headline that reads like a punchline—a former president now the kingmaker in Ohio and Michigan on Oct. 24.
Cleveland hosts his first stop, where he sits beside former Senator Sherrod Brown, who is looking to reclaim a Senate seat from Republican Jon Husted.
The race stakes are high: the winner could tip the balance of the Senate, a fact that has already drawn visits from President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
On the same day, in Detroit, Obama will rally behind Abdul El‑Sayed, a former mayor, and the gubernatorial race featuring Democrat Jocelyn Benson fighting Republican Vivek Ramaswamy.
In a campaign video, Obama praised Brown’s record on jobs, warning that the Ohio election "could determine which party controls the Senate and whether Ohioans can count on Washington to fight for them."
The Democratic Party’s strategy hinges on these two swing states; if the candidates win, they could flip the Senate. The midterm election is scheduled for Nov. 5, a day that could reshape Washington.
