The missile, launched from Yemen, struck the terminal complex of King Khalid International Airport on Saturday, October 10, killing 13 people and injuring over 300, according to Saudi officials.
The attack, the deadliest in a Gulf Arab country since the start of the Iran–Saudi war, was blamed by a Saudi‑led coalition on Iran‑backed Houthi rebels, who have targeted the airport in a series of previous strikes.
The Indian Embassy in Riyadh confirmed the death of Mohammad Yousuf Ali, a 35‑year‑old from Hyderabad, and said it was in contact with his family. It pledged to provide all assistance for the repatriation of his body to India.
Ali’s sons were hospitalized after the blast; one is undergoing knee surgery while the other suffers injuries to his toes. His wife, daughter and aunt were also wounded but are reportedly out of danger. The embassy’s post on X noted the family’s Hyderabad origins.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement condemning the attack as "completely unacceptable" and urged swift action to secure the safety of its citizens abroad.
Saudi officials listed fatalities including four Saudi nationals, a Bangladeshi, a Palestinian, a US citizen, an Egyptian, a Jordanian, a Syrian and a Sudanese. The injured are receiving treatment at multiple hospitals across Riyadh.
The next step will see Indian and Saudi authorities finalising the logistics for Ali’s repatriation, while the Indian government calls for a broader diplomatic response to the ongoing Houthi attacks.
