Agarkar steps down as chairman of the men’s selection committee after a glittering tenure that saw India lift three ICC trophies and two Asia Cups. His departure marks the end of an era that began with the 2024 T20 World Cup win and culminated in the 2026 title, alongside a Champions Trophy triumph in 2025.
Under his watch, India also captured two Asia Cup crowns, grabbed back‑to‑back Asian Games gold medals in 2022 and 2026, and reached the 2023 ODI World Cup final. Those victories are etched in the record books as a 100‑percent success rate in major ICC tournaments during his chairmanship.
The vacancy was announced on October 4 after Agarkar chose not to seek a fourth term, and the BCCI opened applications on October 14. Interim chairman Pragyan Ojha will steer the panel until a new appointee is confirmed, with Shiv Sundar Das, Ajay Ratra and RP Singh lining up as the other members.
In a heartfelt note, BCCI thanked Agarkar for his “commitment, conviction and contribution” and highlighted the team’s achievements, noting his role in ushering the retirements of Kohli and Sharma from T20Is and Tests.
With the new selection committee forming, India’s upcoming fixture against the West Indies in Ranchi on Friday will be the first test of the new regime. The match, held at JSCA International Stadium, will also be the first T20I without Agarkar at the selection table.
India’s next challenge is the T20I series against the West Indies, kicking off this weekend in Ranchi.
