Election Commission Extends Andhra, Meghalaya Voter List Publication to Oct 16 and Oct 26

The Election Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, announced on Wednesday that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) schedule for Andhra Pradesh and Meghalaya had been pushed back. The final voter lists will now appear on October 16 in Andhra Pradesh and October 26 in Meghalaya, up from October 9 and October 21, respectively.

Notice and objection periods, which began on July 31, will continue in Andhra until October 10, while Meghalaya’s claim window remains open without a revised deadline. The delay means voters who have pending objections will need more time to resolve them before the final roll.

Earlier this month, the Commission introduced changes to the voter‑enrolment forms and its electronic roll‑management software after complaints from Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi. The third phase of the SIR covers 36.73 crore voters across 16 states and three Union territories, and the Commission has been adjusting dates regularly.

For residents like 28‑year‑old Rahul Sharma of Visakhapatnam, the delay means a longer wait before he can confirm his eligibility for the upcoming polls. The Commission’s final lists are now set to be published at the end of October, after which voters must check their names to ensure they are correctly recorded.
