Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu stated that the investigation into the crash of Air India Flight AI 171 is in its final stages and is expected to be completed within a month. The minister made these remarks on the sidelines of the Aircraft Leasing and Financing Summit in Gandhinagar, adding that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is conducting the investigation and the government is providing all necessary resources.
The AAIB had submitted its preliminary investigation findings to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation on July 12, 2025. Minister Naidu emphasized the need for transparency in the probe, given that the flight had foreign nationals on board, and assured that the final report would be subject to international scrutiny.
Responding to concerns raised by some families of the victims regarding a lack of communication and delays in compensation from the airline, Naidu said the ministry is closely monitoring the situation and remains in touch with Air India.
The tragic crash occurred on June 12, 2025, when a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner operating as Air India flight AI 171 crashed into the densely populated Meghaninagar area of Ahmedabad less than a minute after takeoff. The minister's statement comes as the investigation nears its completion, and the government is expected to release the final report soon. The court or relevant authorities are expected to review the report and take further action, although no specific dates have been announced for the next steps.
