A special investigation team has arrested Muhammed Najeeb, 53, from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, in connection with an alleged organ donation fraud in Kerala, marking the sixth arrest in the case. The arrest was made by a team led by Ernakulam Rural District Police Chief K.S. Sudarshan and the suspect was taken to Kunnathunad police station for questioning.
Najeeb is accused of forging documents, including letterheads of major Ernakulam hospitals and fake letterheads bearing the names of an MP and an MLA, to facilitate illegal organ donations. Police say the forgeries were used to bypass legal requirements for donor verification, though it remains unclear if the accused were part of a larger national network.
Earlier arrests include Sunny Varghese, his wife Sini Varghese, and Sanoj from Ernakulam district, while Sreeja, Sudheer, and Vinod were taken into custody by Kilikollur police in Kollam. Najeeb's wife, Rasheeda, was also previously arrested in connection with the case.
Investigations are ongoing, with forensic examination of seized documents underway. The police team will present the arrested suspects before the court as the probe continues into the extent of the forgery network.
