Muth village in Sindhudurg district has become the first in Maharashtra to complete the self-enumeration phase of Census 2027, marking a milestone in the state's population count effort. All 43 families in the village submitted accurate information under the guidance of District Collector Tripti Dhodmise, with support from local revenue officials and residents.
The village, located in Vengurla taluka, has 36 households and a population of 144. The successful drive was credited to meticulous planning by Tehsildar Omkar Otari and the coordinated efforts of the naib tehsildar, circle officer, and talathis, officials said on May 9, 2026.
Chief Principal Census Officer Nirupama J. Dange praised the administration-citizen collaboration in Muth, calling it an example for other villages to follow. She urged all communities across Maharashtra to complete self-enumeration within the May 1–15 window.
The self-enumeration phase is the first stage of Census 2027 in Maharashtra, followed by house listing and housing census from May 16 to June 14. The state government will review early participation rates and scale best practices from Muth to other districts in the coming days.
