The subscription window for Jio Platforms Ltd. opens today, marking a historic milestone in Indian capital markets. At the upper end of its ₹1,065 to ₹1,119 price band, the company targets a market capitalization of ₹10.3 lakh crore. This fresh issue of ₹30,213 crore officially eclipses Hyundai Motor India’s 2024 offering of ₹27,870 crore, securing its place as the largest IPO in the country’s history.
Institutional appetite is already visible. According to the anchor book disclosures, Jio has raised ₹8,110 crore from global giants including BlackRock, Capital Group, Fidelity Investments, and JPMorgan Asset Management. Schroders, Invesco, and Janus Henderson also feature prominently in the list of early backers. Notably, this is a purely fresh issue; there is no Offer for Sale (OFS) component, meaning every rupee raised goes directly to the company’s balance sheet.
For retail investors, the entry barrier is set at one lot of 12 shares. At the top of the price band, that means a minimum investment of ₹13,428. Bids must be placed in multiples of 12 shares thereafter. The primary use of proceeds, as outlined in the prospectus, is debt reduction—a critical move for a company of Jio’s scale looking to optimize its capital structure.
Wall Street and domestic analysts are largely aligned, with most carrying a 'subscribe' rating for the issue. The market will now watch closely how the QIB and HNI segments react over the next two days. With the price band fixed and the anchor book locked in, the real test is whether the retail segment can sustain the momentum to close out this record-breaking deal.
