Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Saturday denied and condemned a casteist statement attributed to him on social media, calling it a 'vile, brazen and mischievous' concoction. According to a statement released to PTI, CJI Surya Kant said the attribution of the statement to him was an act of 'rank dishonesty, deliberate social incitement, and contempt for constitutional values'.
The statement in question, originally in Hindi, claimed that if a society remained exploited despite producing high-ranking officials, the fault lay not with the Brahmins but with its own mentality. CJI Surya Kant's office described the attributions as 'wholly baseless, malicious, and demonstrably false'.
The Office of the Hon'ble Chief Justice of India has called upon all responsible citizens, media organisations, and social media platforms to refrain from amplifying false and contrived content.
The court is expected to take further action against the spread of misinformation, with officials likely to monitor social media platforms for similar attributions. The matter will be closely watched in the coming days for any developments or official responses.
