Asaram, 86, had filed an interim bail petition after his lawyer reported that his wife, Laxmidevi, was admitted to the ICU at Shalby Hospital for cardiac complications. The bench rejected the bail, citing the need to maintain the status quo while the matter remained under consideration.
The court received a medical update from the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Women’s Cell, Crime Branch, who presented comprehensive records showing Laxmidevi’s condition as stable and satisfactory. Doctors, relatives, and attendants were already present, and the patient was projected to be discharged within two to three days.
Although the court denied temporary release, it granted permission for Asaram to initiate a video call with his wife. He may submit a formal request to the jail superintendent, who will coordinate the technical setup.
The decision leaves Laxmidevi’s family with limited visitation options, as she remains under intensive care while awaiting discharge. Asaram’s legal team has indicated that the video call will be his sole means of contact until the court revisits the matter.
