BJP and RLD chiefs Jayant Chaudhary and Nitin Nabin are scheduled to march through Noorpur, Uttar Pradesh, on December 23, the 96th anniversary of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh’s birth. The rally will feature a speech by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and appearances by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and UP BJP chief Pankaj Chaudhary, according to RLD sources.
The choice of Noorpur, the ancestral village of Charan Singh, signals a deliberate appeal to the farmer‑dominated Jat and Gurjar communities that make up the bulk of the 136 assembly seats the alliance aims to win in western Uttar Pradesh. “We want to honour his legacy while rallying the farmers who have always supported us,” said RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary in an interview.
Charan Singh’s legacy as a land‑reform champion and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh still resonates in the region. His grandson, Jayant Chaudhary, founded the RLD in 1996 and has steered the party through alliances with the BJP, Congress and SP, securing a seat‑sharing deal that brought Baghpat and Bijnor into the NDA fold for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
The rally, timed to coincide with the Bharat Ratna award ceremony for Charan Singh in 2024, is part of a broader strategy to project unity across Rajasthan and Haryana on the same day. “We are bringing the RLD’s home ground to the forefront while standing beside a larger partner,” said Nitin Nabin.
Observers note that the BJP‑RLD partnership could tilt the balance in key districts like Baghpat, Meerut and Muzaffarnagar, where farmer‑led politics have historically dominated. The SP, meanwhile, is bolstering its base among backward classes and minorities, keeping the western UP contest tightly contested.
The December 23 rally will be the launchpad for a month‑long campaign. Election officials expect a surge in voter outreach in the weeks that follow, with additional rallies slated for Rajasthan and Haryana to bolster the alliance’s outreach before the 2027 assembly elections.
