Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Friday challenged claims by AMMK General Secretary TTV Dhinakaran that a letter from AMMK MLA-elect Kamaraj S supporting TVK's government formation bid was forged. TVK released a video showing Kamaraj writing and reading aloud a statement saying he backed TVK with Dhinakaran's approval, calling Dhinakaran's denial an attempt to spread misinformation.
Dhinakaran, who met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar at Lok Bhavan, dismissed the TVK video, asserting the letter was part of a 'horse trading' effort and legally invalid. He confirmed that Kamaraj had signed a separate letter earlier Friday endorsing AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami as the NDA's rightful chief ministerial candidate, reaffirming AMMK's alignment with the AIADMK-led alliance.
TVK, which won 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly, has surpassed the Congress, CPI, and CPI(M), which collectively hold nine seats and have pledged support to TVK. The party insists it does not need to negotiate for power, though it continues outreach to smaller groups and independent MLAs.
The Governor has yet to invite any party to form the government, and both TVK and the AIADMK-led NDA coalition are submitting evidence of support. The Election Commission is expected to confirm the majority mark and timeline for government formation within 48 hours.
